Shore Leave Haslar – A Haven for Veterans

Visit the Memorial Garden at Haslar to find out about the historic past of the garden and the present-day work of horticultural therapy for veterans.

The Memorial Garden at Haslar is a walled 3-acre hidden gem where healing continues to take place, long after the closure of the hospital.  Using horticulture as therapy, the garden is an ideal space for a wide variety of gardening and related activities  The garden has developed and matured over the years from the care and attention taken by all who volunteer and benefit from the space.

Many of the historic aspects are still visible, from the enclosing wall to the gravestones and there will be volunteers on hand to talk to about all aspects of the garden.

As this is a parkland area, please be aware it is not entirely even underfoot.  Suitable footwear is advised and perhaps insect repellent.  Most of the garden is accessible for wheelchairs but just a few areas could be challenging.

Directions

Pedestrians enter the grounds via the green wooden dates on Haslar Road.  Parking  is within the main Haslar site and you will be directed to the garden from there.  Please avoid parking on Haslar Road unless a Blue Badge holder.
